Cummins means business in 2009
Manxman Conor Cummins has declared himself all set and raring to go for the 2009 season, with his first meeting coming at next weekend's opening round of the National Superstock 1000cc Championship at Brands Hatch. The 22-year old heads into the first round as one of the series' main contenders, lining up in the colours of Team Blackhorse Yamaha on one of the all-new R1 machines.

Led by multi-TT winner and fellow racer Ian Lougher, Cummins rode for Team Blackhorse Yamaha in the final two rounds of the 2008 season and impressed enough to earn a ride for the full year ahead. With a podium position at Oulton Park last year already under his belt, Cummins is now well placed to challenge for the leading positions on a more regular basis whilst he also finds himself in the unique position of riding for two teams during the year having, also signed for McAdoo Racing for the International Road Races.

Despite his tender years, Cummins is expected to be a leading contender at the North West 200, Isle of Man TT, Ulster Grand Prix and Southern 100 and having tested the Pirelli-shod Kawasaki machines recently at Castle Combe, the Ramsey man is in no doubt that this could well be his year.

Speaking about the new season, Conor said;

"Like all racers, I can't wait for the new season to start and having enjoyed a break over winter, the batteries have been suitably charged and I'm raring to go. I've been working extremely hard on my fitness since my last race at Macau last November, competing in some enduro races whilst also putting in a lot of mileage on my mountain bike so I'm coming into the season fitter, and stronger, than ever before."

"I've got some superb rides for 2009, with two superb teams, and I intend to grasp the opportunities with both hands. The test at Castle Combe went extremely well and having got a taste for the McAdoo Kawasaki machines at the Southern 100 and Ulster GP last year, I immediately felt at home on the bikes and the team are giving me everything to succeed at the International road races. Likewise for the Superstock Championship and I'm relishing the chance to work with Ian Lougher and Team Blackhorse for the whole year. They have vasts amount of experience, which I aim to take full advantage of to move my riding on to new levels and attain the results I feel I'm capable of. I'm very excited about 2009 and everything is in place so I'm really pumped up for Brands over the Easter weekend - bring it on!"

The opening round of the National Metzeler Superstock 1000cc Championship takes place at Brands Hatch, Kent over the Easter weekend (April 10-13).
